Water For Schools

Water for Schools

The Water for Schools (WFS) program aims at improving clean drinking water availability in a number government run schools in rural, peri-urban and urban parts of India. Jaldhaara aims to create a direct impact on the health of the students in these schools thereby leading to reduction in absenteeism owing to ill-health. Jaldhaara also organizes regular trainings on WASH awareness thereby attempting to ensure a significant change in ‘behavior’ of the students. As young ambassadors to the WASH initiative, they would also in turn advocate the same in their families and hopefully make them aware thereby scaling up the impact of the program.

The WFS program is being implemented on the ground through our Technical Partner – WaterHealth India, pioneers in improving access to safe and clean drinking water in underserved communities across the country.

WaterHealth has over 450 decentralized water purification units WaterHealth Centres(WHCs) across seven states (Delhi, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Telangana and Karnataka) catering to over seven (7) million underserved community members. WaterHealth also has an extensive mechanism of DSPs (Delivery Service Providers) who are young entrepreneurs from the community facilitating transportation of water from the WHC to nearby locations (schools and residences). ‘Water for Schools’ program attempts to leverage this by reaching out to the government schools in the vicinity of the water purification units through its existing network of DSPs. This will result in students getting safe and affordable drinking water for the entire year or as per the term stipulated by the funding partner.
